How do you like them apples?

We read that Frenchies like cheese, apples, pears and tripe. We've been giving him his medicine wrapped in cheese and that seems to be going well. He really looks forward to it. Apples are in season now, so I thought I would give him a little taste of apple.

Mmmm Mommy What's that?

It's apple. Here, have a piece.

Lick lick Mmmm Delicious Slurp slurp

Nibble nibble nibble. He's so funny. He knew to nibble around my fingers! What a smart dog!

Thanks for the treat, mommy.

New Trick: Ring the Bell

I'm attempting to teach Basil a new trick. Friends of ours have taught their dog to ring a little Christmas bell hung from a door knob to signal when he wants to go out (instead of scratching at the door or whining). Basil has been really good, but we have a hard time telling if he needs to go or if he's just sniffing around the place. He's a smart dog so I hope he can learn this.

I started by hanging the bell and letting him get used to seeing it and hearing the sound when we "go outside".

Then whenever we take him outside, we take his paw and smack the bell with his paw and say "Ring the bell ring the bell".

He seems to be afraid of the bell right now, but we heard that's normal. Next, we'll try teaching him to ring the bell himself and give him treats. I hope this works.

Keeping my paw crossed.

Tid Bits: Sun Bathing

Another reason why he's spoiled.

Today, I took advantage of the warm weather and sat outside with Basil while I studied for my exam. I already knew he didn't like the dampness and cold. He stood by me the whole time and I could tell he wanted to lay down, but the deck was damp. So I brought him a towel and put it down on the deck. Immediately, he laid down on it. He also really liked laying out under the warm sun.

He's definitely livin' the good life and he likes it!

Tid Bits: Door Stopper

Basil makes it really hard for me to leave in the morning.

As I put my shoes on, he makes his way across my lap and lays there (I suppose he's telling me not to go). I miss him so much. I think about him all day and race home to see him. I have lots of pictures of him on my desk.

Do Not Remove

Under penalty of law...

Basil does a funny thing in the mornings where he rolls around his bed and "fights" it with us.

He goes for this label that is inside the bed. The "Do not remove under penalty of law..." label. We cut it off so he wouldn't eat it, but it's funny. He's just like a baby who likes to play with clothing tags.

Basil goes Shopping

We took Basil for an outing. He was so excited and had a great car ride too. He sniffed everything in the store. We think he really enjoyed it. We tried on different clothes and even costumes. More to come on that.

This jacket was so cute but it was too small for him. I'm going to try to sew one like it for him.

He met a lot of other dogs there and they all made friends.

TOYS TOYS TOYS

We tested Basil with these kitties. He was very curious about them. He's so sweet, but they hissed at him. Another reason I don't like cats.

Then we had lunch outside with him. Everyone who walked by kept complimenting him and telling us how cute he was. I agree.

Basil meets the Kids

We introduced Basil to his new nieces and nephew. They loved him! They played and gave him treats and all kinds of love. He was so good with them. He met grandma and grandpop too!

They threw him a sugar cookie! haha
