Captain Mac has a Home to call his own

We all have a special place in our heart for Captain Mac. Captain Mac was one of Basil's foster mates and visited us in NJ on his way to his next foster home. While Basil lived comfortable on mom's lap for a year, our friend Captain Mac still had no home to call his own. Mom did everything she could to promote him. Even by putting his face on her cookies during a bake sale fundraiser. Now we have great news! Captain Mac has found a wonderful new home with a new mom.

From FBRN,

"FBRN is tickled pink that Captain Mac has sailed off into the sunset with his long-awaited soul mate. When Captain Mac's new mom came to pick him up, his happiness was written all over his face! After years of not having someone special to call his own, Captain Mac has been adopted by a new mom who is as in love with him as he is with her. We've already gotten updates that everything is going perfectly and that Captain Mac has brought so much joy to his new mom's life. She knew it was meant to be!"

Bio:

"Mac has a bite history.

Like many sailors, Captain Mac’s history is a bit spotty. What we do know is that he was surrendered to FBRN after a neighbor tried to offer him a home and got a bite for the trouble. Mac has been adopted before, and he didn’t so much take a liking to the man of the house. This also resulted in a bite incident, and the Captain was returned to FBRN to once again tame his ways and look for calmer waters. Mac is now ready to sail into the sunset with his perfect forever home, and we think he’s ready. Although he did seem to have issues with some men, he did amazingly well with his first foster dad who is a patient and wonderful guy. We think the Cap’n would do great in a home with a similar male figure.

Mac had some health issues when he came to FBRN and has had a hernia repair, some teeth removed and a couple of recurring eye infections. He is now in tip-top shape and has no real health issues to speak of. Mac does have a paralyzed larynx that can cause him to breathe rather loudly, but it doesn’t seem to have any effect on him otherwise.

He’s still ready to roam the high seas—in short bursts of course—and take a nap in the sun. After many months of toilet training, Mac has gotten the hang of things and rarely has an accident. All that time at sea can make a fellow forget how to behave in polite company, but his foster homes have gotten him back on the right track and ready to live with refined land lubbers. He is also crate-trained, and although he doesn’t have formal obedience training, Captain Mac will come when called.

Mac is an insecure little man prone to anxiety, but with the right guidance he has learned to relax more and have confidence. He’ll need a home that will continue to work on his confidence and help him through his anxious moments.

Although Mac does better as an only dog, he does seem fairly comfortable around larger breeds. He is able to coexist peacefully with the Boxers in his current foster home. Mac can be prone to separation anxiety so he'll need a firm but kind human in his life to help keep him on track with some basic ground rules.

A funny and affectionate little man, Mac loves to cuddle up and give lots of kisses. He's a great snuggle buddy and a wonderful companion and would suit a retired person or someone who works at home. He only needs moderate exercise and loves to keep you company in the yard when the weather is nice for gardening or just relaxing.

Mac would not do well in the city or in a busy household and will be looking for a quiet residence with no children to call his forever home. All that hustle and bustle can make his anxiety worse, and he really is ready to leave adventure behind him in favor of a peaceful retirement with lots of Nylabones to chew. A fenced yard is preferred but not necessary.

Mac’s foster mom would prefer that there be meetings prior to adoption and that adopters be within reasonable driving distance so that post-adoption support will be readily available if needed. Here’s what she has to say about this lovable lug: “Mac has a super sweet loving personality which needs to be seen to be appreciated. He does need someone who can set basic rules for him, otherwise his anxieties will return.”

Captain Mac is a gem. If you think you’re the right person to treasure him forever, put in an application now. Mac is being fostered in Connecticut and will not be shipped."

We are Family!

That's us!

"Duval has found his forever home, and in addition to gaining a wonderful new life, he has a new name to boot. Duval will now be known as Basil Oliver Brown. It’s a big, distinguished name for this silly little man, but we think it’s just perfect! Basil’s new parents are so sweet and kind, and boy, were they happy to have their new baby! They had ribbons and signs heralding the arrival of their new family member, and they even sent out birth announcements to friends so they could share their joy. We think Basil just might be in store for the good life. Before Basil’s foster mom even left, neighbors were coming over to meet the new baby and congratulate his elated parents. Basil is one lucky little frog, and we’re excited that he will be such a cherished member of a wonderful, loving family."
~ FBRN.

Isn't that sweet? Become a forever family to one of theses loving frenchies. Or donate and support those who are caring for these sweet little frogs.

"Duval" is coming home!

Keith got a call last night from Duval's foster mom and she asked us "So when do you want to come pick up your dog?!" We are so excited! On Saturday, a local FBRN rep came to do a home visit and brought her dog Betty. She had a few comments regarding dog safety and then she was on her way. She told us we would hear back within a few days after they all deliberated, so I didn't expect a call so soon.

Duval's foster mom is on her way to Massachusetts for a dog show on October 10th, so she's going to actually meet us at our house to drop him off all the way from Florida! This is perfect timing because now we can buy all his stuff and get everything ready for his arrival.

Today, my friends and are going to take a walk down to the chic doggie store and do some window shopping.

Phone Interview

We had a 2 hour phone interview last night with Duval's foster mom. We learned all about him and why he was surrendered. He is healthy, no breathing problems, is allergic to corn and wheat, and has gained weight since switching to Merrick dog food. There are 3 other candidates for Duval, but our application is strong and the only disadvantage is that Duval would be great for a house with multiple dogs because he's so playful. We have plenty of dogs in our neighborhood that he would never be lonely.

So now it's on to the home visit. After we got off the phone with the foster mom, we heard from the local rep of FBRN who is going to conduct the home visit.

I'm so excited!!! I hope he's ours!!!

Duval Pending

I went back to the website the day after we put in our application and there was a PENDING banner over Duval! Yippee! It takes 4-6 weeks for them to review the application, so we're waiting patiently now. In the mean time, we're reading books about french bull dogs especially ones that have been rescued. Separation anxiety is high on the priority list. We're making preparations to get him in Florida, take him to the vet, deciding how to introduce his new home to him. Check out some of those other beauties who need a home!

I hope we're the lucky ones!

"DUVAL" from FBRN

We checked back with the FBRN website and saw new doggies up for adoption. I went through their bios and found "Duval". This is his description from their website and he sounded puurrfect for us! I gathered all the appropriate information to fill our adoption application and sent it in right away! Duval, I hope we're the lucky parents!

"Duval is a darling youngster who was surrendered when his owner lost his job and felt he could not longer give Duval what he needed. Duval is still really a baby at just 15 months, but he is already a first class pet – absolutely top drawer.

Though he had some minor skin issues when he came to us, those are all cleared up now and Duval has a beautiful healthy coat of luxurious brindle. We stole his jewels while he wasn’t looking and now he’s all ready to go.

Duval has a perfect personality for a Frenchie, and given that he is so young it’s really pretty extraordinary. He loves to play but does not have nutso puppy energy, in fact, he’s just as happy to sit by you or in your lap and gaze at you adoringly. He loves dogs and plays nicely with all shapes and sizes and he loves people, too, kids included. We haven’t tested him with cats, so we’ll say not to those. He has no temperament issues of any kind.

Duval likes to chew on a bone, watch t.v., play with dogs, and take nice rambles around the neighborhood with his people. He is crate trained and housetrained as long as he is kept on a good schedule. He has never had an accident in his crate. What a good boy! Duval is an excellent listener and knows how to sit, come and wait even though he has had no formal training. He might be a genius!

Duval would do well in many kinds of homes – house, apartment or townhome. If he lives in a house we’d prefer a fenced yard, but as long as he gets nice walks he is fine. He would love playing in a friendly dog park, too. Duval is well-rounded and very social and would be a nice take to work companion. He is gentle and easy and could live with children as well as adults. He loves to play with other dogs, so a home with a canine companion would be great.

A few closing words from Duval’s foster mom: “Duval is as sweet as they come. He is such a lovebug that he would be a great addition to any family. He loves people and other dogs and listens very well. He has the most beautiful, soft coat that makes you want to run your hands over him all the time. I cannot say enough good things about this guy. Whoever is lucky enough to be chosen for his forever family will be getting a really great family member.”

Can you spell PERFECT? We spell it this way D-U-V-A-L! If you know a good thing when you see it and can give Duval lots of love and a good home then sharpen your pencil and fill out an application today. And if you are lucky enough to take him home, be sure to plan on coming in person. Mr. Perfect is waiting for you in Florida, and he will not be shipped!"
